Research Areas
The GW Center for Economic Research (CER) facilitates a wide range of research projects that require economic data and analysis. CER holds regular seminars for the GW community in forecasting, microeconomics, trade and development, macro-international and AI economics.
Research Areas
H.O. Stekler Research Program on Forecasting
The H.O. Stekler Research Program was named in honor of our renowned former colleague Herman Stekler, known as the “grandfather” of forecast evaluation. Current research interests of program members include a wide range of studies on the methodology of forecasting and forecast evaluation as well as preparation of macroeconomic and microeconomic forecasts.
Microeconomics
Program members in Microeconomics conduct research on labor economics, public economics, personnel economics, urban economics and political economy.
Trade and Development
Current research interests in Trade and Development encompass development economics, urban economics, public finance, inequality and poverty and international trade.
Macro-International
Our Macroeconomics group investigates technical change, economic growth, institutions and regulations, alongside critical issues such as inflation, unemployment and commodity price dynamics. Meanwhile, our International Finance group analyzes international capital flows, distortions in capital markets, the domestic and global banking sectors, currency and sovereign debt crises and the interplay between exchange rate regimes and monetary policy.
AI Economics
The Artificial Intelligence (AI) Economics program explores the intersection of economics and AI, focusing on two key areas. First, it examines the economic impact of AI on the economic behavior of individuals, markets and the economy. Second, it supports empirical and methodological research leveraging AI tools like machine learning and natural language processing to support econometric and forecasting methods in economic analysis.
